What is the best way to treat large files for uploading?
I have a need of uploading file that are upto 350 megs and etc..
and need to either upload via ftp and make a nice download page with database for them..

To be honest, you're rarely going to be on any server that will allow you to upload that size of file via http unless you have a vps / dedicated server of your own. Thats because of the way apache and php are setup and the max file sizes etc.
The only way I see around it is ftp. You could combine that with a flash app embedded in the page that will accept the file and then perform the upload via ftp itself while displaying a progress bar or something.
Thats the most I can advise, I can only assume flash has this capability - it's been 10 years (or more) since I last used flash and back then it was version 4

You can do chunked uploading to get around that file size limit. Here is an example for Plupload: http://www.plupload.com/example_queuewidget.php
