Hi all

Can anyone help??? To help maintain the size and shape of my page, I would like to be able to change the font size depending in what the user has font size set to

is there a way to find out what the user has font size set to...???

The user has his font size set to 100% (or 1em) of his preference. That is your starting point. You can use 120% for your headings and 80% for "fine print". The size and shape of your page should adapt to user settings and device capabilities, not "be maintained".

Thanks Vladdy

But i new most of that. Yes i can design my page around font size changes, but it would be a kinda nice touch to be able to ether resize an image to match the font or to keep the font locked to the size i want....But to do this you would need to know the font size that the user has his browser set to, can this be done????

No it is NOT nice to keep the font the size YOU want and not letting the user to have the font he/she is comfortable is.

It's a lost battle, benlyboy. To resize an image to match the user's selected font size will be difficult work and doesn't add that much to the usability of the page. And you have to take side effects in account too - if element sizes get stretched beyond their designated limits and if that could mess up the general layout etc. I'd say it's easier to select a favorite font size and define that with ems or percentages, so a user can resize them at will, and spare yourself the work of trying to reach the perfect, universal, identical layout. Skip the issue by using relative font sizes and focus on other areas that need work.

FWIW, here's a site that has an extensive summary how various fonts in various sizes look like on (guess what) various platforms:
