FTP server status

Does ayone know how to write a javascript which detects the status of an FTP server and then indicates on a web page whether the server is up or down.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not with client-side JavaScript alone. Look into using a server-side language like PHP and then checking the status of the server using function such as fsockopen.
