On one computer I use Dreamweaver to edit my site, on another computer I use Notepad ++. Sometimes when I open a file in Notepad++ after downloading the latest version from the server, the code is all jumbled together. Most of the time the code formatting is intact. It happens only maybe 1 out of 10 pages.

Anybody else have this problem?

I use Filezilla to upload and download files.

You may be having a problem with EOL ( end of line ) characters, there are unix versions, and ms dos versions of EOL.

for unix
\n
for dos
\r\n

You should have conversion options available.

Where are those supposed to go? Within the html document?

They're at the end of every line on every document, but somewhere in the editor options you should have a choice to change the EOL characters.

The only time I use those characters \n\r is in email headers w/apache on linux.
for windows it would more look like a ^M as an end of line character.
-- didn't see where to change it on notepad but ran into simular problems switching from windows notepad and vim either way I ended up sticking with notepad++. and stopped creating that problem.
also look into encoding ie: you should be using utf-8 in your webpages.
The doctype deceleration is good thing to know.

NOTE just googled it. AND The Answer IS> Menu/ edit/ eol conversion.
