Hi

I know it's a big ask for someone to help me with this much work but I really want to understand how to do it myself.

Im trying to create a webpage for my illustration work but with the small tinkering I have done I cannot for the life of me get it to work. All I want is a simple template the house my content and make it so the page is always centered on everyones web browsers...

I have made examples of what I want it to look like:

http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac170/StUerror/example1.png

http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac170/StUerror/example2.png

Example 2 is an example of a template I would like to create to I can add content like photos and hyperlinks to 3 different pages.
So a basic content box that stays in the middle that will allow things to be put inside it.

Example 1 is my home page with buttons the the 3 other pages where I would like a footer that stays on the bottom whatever resolution.

I have prob made this very complicated to understand but Im desperate... I hope someone can help me!!

Thanks

If you really want to exhibit your illustration work and not bother with coding, use the free JAlbum (http://jalbum.net/) and the Skin (http://jalbum.net/en/skins) you like. Most of the Skins use XHTML 1.0 and will validate although you can use JAlbum's own editor.

It's well and good using Skins, templates but in the end you don't learn anything, he wants to learn and create his website.

Here's what you need to do.

What you need:

Container
Menu
Content
Footer

In that order

The container will hold all of the other elements, it will allow you to move and resize the page without resizing all of your other work.

Create the divs.

<div id="container">
<div class="menu">
<ul class="nav">
<li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
<li><a href="#">Bio</a></li>
<li><a href="#">Gallery</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="content">
<p>This is my content</p>
</div>
<div class="footer">
Footer Content
</div>
</div>

Then you would create your css.

Then you would create your css.OP didn't say he wanted to LEARN at this point! He wants to get his site up and working to show his work. Learning can come later if necessary. The solution I gave does a great job of doing just that.

If OP wants to learn, there are better alternatives than getting code from other posters at this point. Code Academy (http://www.codecademy.com/) is free to use plus there are many, many other better sources.

He did says he wants to learn.

He did says he wants to learn."All I want is a simple template the house my content and make it so the page is always centered on everyones web browsers..."

Understanding how and learning how are two different things. If OP wants to take the time to learn how to code the way he wants so his pages look like he wants, it will be some time before he gets the site made. I offered a quick solution to get the site up and running. Afterwards, OP can analyze the code and see how it was done. You learn better through practice, but you have to balance this with whether you want your site up and running looking great or letting us code it and just slap it into place?

Since you guys do not get it, no more comments from me on this. Anyone can have the last "word" on the subject as far as I'm concerned. My concern is getting OP's site up and running. OP can ask how later.

Fair enough Major Payne, but I think its a difference of interpretation. I don't see a difference between understand and learn (at what point is understanding how/why something is different from having learned what/why it is?), and the sentence you quoted just lists out the requirements he wants (not that he literally wants something to give him a template). Its far from "don't get it", as I could contend you didn't understand what he's asking. But to each their own.
