I've been doing PHP for a couple of months now and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to maybe take a small break (say one or two weeks) and maybe learn some Java, or is it best to stick with PHP while I'm still learning?

What ever floats your boat. As from the way you wrote this, you want me to say yes - go learn java. If you wanted to stick with PHP for longer you wouldn't of posted this, go learn some java. You might aswell. Although, you could still do both.

This isn't school, we're not your teachers / rule makers, you can pretty much do what ever is the most convenient to you

Thanks for the replies!

I'm thinking more if this is a bad idea? Perhaps it could even end up being beneficial. :)

procedural PHP = stick with PHP for awhile.
OOP PHP = go ahead and start Java.

PHP to me looks that it stole a lot of it's OO ideas from Java.

I say this since I started with procedural languages, then moved to OO. At this point, I have great difficulty actually programming procedural PHP now since I think of everything in an OO context. Not really a problem, but I now find myself hitting situations which take a lot more attention and care in procedural handling that would be a breeze to implement OO.
