Good or bad idea to have a splash page?

Do you think, by having a splash page, my search engine rankings will be adversely affected?

Currently, the site I'm referring to is entirely in flash. I'm creating a second version that is mostly html so there will be a lot more text/content in which the search engine bots can see. I'm thinking of implementing a splash page similar to this:

I personally don't like splash pages, they seem pointless other than if you have to select a language. However since your site is all flash (another thing I personally don't like) you'll need one for people without flash installed or want to use the html version.

I don't think your search engine rating will not be adversly affected since bots can't index flash only sites to begin with (as far as I know).
