Hi I haven't participated much around here I know but I thought I'd seek help anyway.

We have a site that is in dire need of redesign nearly from the ground up. It is more or less an e-commerce site but one I feel needs to be a custom job and not use an off the shelf ecommerce or even CMS package. It basically is an event tickets site which sells concert, sports and theater tickets. There is also another project slightly related that is more of a traditional website though it will need to be database driven. Both projects will require LAMP + more...

Before we proceed to fix things we'd like to consult with someone about what to do and how to do it. Are there any recommendations of any individuals or companies that can help us and do it right?

I imagine I will get a ton of spam form people offering their services. That's nice but I am hoping I can get some feedback from as many people as possibly about getting help. Last thing any one wants to do is get bad advice or direction and then spend thousands to implement it.

I have done most of the work previously but would like someone else to step in and do the work and do it better than I can.

Any help is appreciated.

I am Building one now as we speak, and yes I came to the same conclusion that it has to be custom, and not an off the shelf CMS, what are your issues

Jnmunsey:

I completely understand where you are coming from with wanting to speak to someone before you proceed. I would like to talk with you to see if we would be a good match working together and just to talk about the project and I'll give you some advice on how I would go about it, no matter if you want to go with us or not to perform the services. My firm specializes in this kind of work, so I think we could be a good match, but we like to make sure that the client feels so also.

Check out my website at http://www.brand-strategix.com and call our main office phone number. If I don't answer, ask for Alex Parker, and I would be more than happy to talk.

Best Regards,
Alex Parker

My issue is getting started. :) I can do the work ok but would like to have someone else do it for me. My biggest challenge is finding a good fit for my needs. Everyone I talk with wants to do it the CMS way...

I guess my post was to ask for help in finding someone.

The CMS way is the cheap makeshift way out, it will work but you will have unfortunate limitations due to the structure and framework of the CMS.
A CMS framework is great for lots if not most websites, but this is a web application, not a website.
An application like this has to be custom to to fit the needs and individual requirements.

We are about 75% completed our ticketing project, I am a Technical Director for a Theatre/Production Company in Canada, and we are developing this Custom application from the ground up, it is an application that will allow for unlimited venues, event locations, ticket sales locations, ticket rates, ticket sales agents, as well as the capability to sell tickets for other companies. Individuals or groups can book their tickets online or at any number of ticket booths and or locations. It will interface to various ticket printers and will generate many reports. Sent me a private message with your requirements and maybe this application will work for you, if not maybe it could be adjusted to fit your requirements
