Can this be done in PHP?

*I have a website with 3 catagories of images, such as USA, Canada, Mexico.

*I create 3 image folders named USA, Canada, Mexico and put all images relating to those countries in the proper folder.

*Create 3 links on my website named USA, Canada, Mexico.

*When someone clicks the link to USA a page is generated with thumbnails of all the pictures in the USA image folder. They then can click on a thumbnail for a larger picture.

*Any new images I add to the folders are automatically displayed without me having to add any new code. I also would like to add just the full size photos to the image folders and have PHP automatically create the thumbnails.

My actual site will have a lot more than 3 catagories, but for this example I used just 3.

Sincerely,

Yes. That script I posted a link to is written in PHP. You can create as many categories as you like with it. Did you want to write your own script or something?

Thanks for the reply Spookster.....Yes I hope to write my own PHP script. I have just started to get into PHP in the last week.

What I have done so far is download a PHP guestbook and open all the .php files in notepad to see how the coding is. I will do the same with a PHP image gallery.

My first PHP attempt was creating a navigate.php, header.php, footer.php,style.css and index.php. I linked them all with the "include" line in the index.php file and it worked. I think with PHP I can eleminate the .css file and put all that info into the header.php.

I know you said that you used notepad which I on occasionally do but if you have dreamweaver there is a wonderful extension from a Romanian company called InterAKT. It includes the master/detail page, resultlist, as well as other server behaviors.

They have other GPL's software as well if you don't use Dreamweaver.

Thanks StupidRalph.....I don't have Dreamweaver but I would prefer to use some sort of PHP,HTML,CSS editor instead of Notepad because of the color coding of the code so you can see what you are doing a little easier.

Something I made fairly quickly recently was an image browser which shows all images in a directory in a WinXP Fimstrip view.

See it in action:
