I am on my third printer, I can't seem to get 64bit Linux UBUNTU 20.01 to install any printer driver.

At Lexmark I downloaded a tar.gz for ubuntu but the installer asks for PPD.gz.....

unpack the .tgz , there is probably a .deb package or an install.sh script in it

ok, unpack it, in a terminal go to wherever you unpacked it...

sudo chmod +x install.sh
sudo ./install.sh

I had unpacked.
There is no .sh or deb
There is a debian folder:
changelog Changelog document
compat plain text document
control plain text document
control.modules.in plain text document
watch plain text document
rules Makefile

I bought four printers. The fouth i went to five stores to find one that already had a driver within the driver listing in Linux. It still won't recognize the scanner. Seems noone can scan with Ubuntu.

ok open a terminal and enter these commands in sequence

1. switch to the /tmp directory (cd stands for change directory, in this case we're changing to the /tmp directory)

cd /tmp

2. download the drivers (wget used like this will download any link into the current directory, in this case /tmp)

wget http://downloads.lexmark.com/downloads/cpd/lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.amd64.deb.sh.tar.gz

3. extract the drivers once download is complete (we're simply extract the file from compressed tarball)

tar -zxvf lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.amd64.deb.sh.tar.gz

4. install the driver (sudo means do this job with root/admin privileges and we're running the lexmark script to install the drivers)

sudo ./lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.amd64.deb.sh

your done, and btw your welcome even though you called me an elitist who wants to horde knowledge

Another alternative, you can try to download the printer driver from official website, and search for Linux OS version that match with installed in your PC.
