View Full Version : Website Ideas for clean/cool interaction

I have this initial concept going for my roomates professional portfolio. Its off to a decent start but I want to continue refining the look and functionality to make sure it is very clean with more cool interaction.

I am posting on the JS section because I figure this is where the engineers of unique functionality are located.

I would love if people could toss me some ideas and challenges to try and make this thing unique and cool too better help him show off his work.

Thanks - Micah

one addition I am contemplating is on click of any of the home page images, without reloading the site, bring in the designated portfolio section.

Any ideas about that?

I’m generally not a friend of effects just for the effects (simple mouseover/mouseout effects excluded) and especially the on-click-of-a-link-load-content-without-reloading-the-page effects are effects that add no substantial value to a site and generally aren’t worth the effort it takes to create them. Loading content asynchronously is fairly easy but you’d then also have to program something to make the back button work as expected, and create a browser history entry, and you have to program something that makes it possible to link to the section directly, and so forth.

If an effect adds a value to the interaction or the site (like increasing usablitity by easing things as opposed to the usability without the effect) then it’s certainly OK to have it (e. g. if there is not enough room for an image caption bring it up in an overlay over the image on mouseover) but I have it with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

One thing I have to note regarding that site: In the Portfolio section add some forward/back buttons to the slider and make the slider stop on mouseover (or don’t make it move automatically by default) so one can change the slides manually. Someone might want to have a more thorough look on one or the other work.

Oh and P. S.: I suppose the background of the site should be white? Because it isn’t for me as you seem to have forgotten to specify a background color and I have a different default browser background color in my browser settings.
