Layout that I want (http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp270/ravenoz_bucket/index1.png)

I am currently using position:absolute, but I have realised the side-effects of doing so :( .

Are there any other methods to accomplish the same effect ?

You could do it with floats and relative positioning, though I'd use absolute for that personally.

Just make sure your parent element is position:relative this way you can control the positioning a little better.

Add a div or section around your figure and nav. The section will be your parent element. You could set a width to it as well.
