This is the first real project I've completed and I'm pretty happy with it thus far. This is just the homepage, and I think there's probably a lot of stuff I could fix in the actual html/css aspects. Be rough!

I wish there was a place to get my hands on a bunch of mock ups so I could code them for practice, as i learned a lot in the making of this one. I'm just not so good at coming up with the actual design ideas.

Thanks!

Don't use a transitional DOCTYPE when designing a new page. Use a strict one instead and then validate your markup using http://validator.w3.org/

The colours need some attention. You can do a lot worse than have a look at other schemes that work and do something similar.

Changed it to strict and it found like 14 errors but IDK how to translate it from what its saying to what the actual problem is.

As for the colors, they look really good on my laptop but horrible on my netbook, desktop, and a few other computers I've tested it on. Basically, it looks different everywhere as far as colors (particularly the blue-purple). How can I find good schemes and or make it constant or at least close to constant across the board?

Another problem I've noticed is the footer won't stay at the bottom on other computers. I've read some guides saying to have everything else in a container, but is that bad practice to have an extra div container? I want to learn everything the right way..

Thanks so far!

I really like the light text on dark back ground.

I love the gray and green. Im doing the same thing with a site.

Take this as a grain of salt, but i dont think that blue works. I'll post the color code its at now in case you change it. i printscreened, pasted to gimp... #4f559a is the blue.

Im sorta hard to please color wise. it's been hard to deal with myself

Oh and your light green button looks too bright, especially with white text. the green is #9bd188

I've only seen the home page so far. I love the idea of polls. Good Luck with it.

How can I find another color then? It's more of a purple on my monitor :/

Yeah I'm gonna have to update the buttons, I thought something looked off.

Any suggestions for the background color? One that will work cross-monitor..

If it helps, this is MORE of what I see...

I've realized explaining monitor color problems is like explaining to a blind person what colors are like. crap..

I think the problem is that the brightish blue is too attention grabbing. I filled it in with a dark blue and it also lets you see the texture in background.

One issue with the button is since the background of button is light green, you have to pick anther color for the text. but the green on gray is really nice. you could still use the button as is, the green is great. i would say shade the green down on button, but then it will be darker [than other greens]. although since there's more of the color [in button] it looks brighter than it is, i was surprised it was same green as text.

I used darker blue and changed button to appear as a text link

How are the colors now?

I think the colors blend better but now it's too dark overall. It could be that the dark blue is too close to gray in brightness. In my screen shot i backfilled with a dark blue but that patten makes it brighter and i think you went darker I did.

The lime button is nice looking. like a lime skittle. what if you added more text shadow to the button text.

divs are great. I havent read anything against them.

so, hmm. it looks like your footer div needs its margin-bottom set to zero. not sure.
