graphics request

Hi , not sure if I should be asking this here ... and I should know ! ;)

but I was wondering if any graphics gurus could create a set of `icons` (jpg or gifs) for use in upcoming phpdev version

you would get sod all in return except a big thankyou and a credit (which would appear in all future phpdev versions 1/4 million dloads to data (according to sourceforge)) ~

basics are I need an icon set that conveys graphically (so far)

MySQL adminstration

'Set root password'
'Add new User'
'Add new Database'
'Add user to database'
'Edit User Privileges'

Apache / htaccess

'Add new user'
Add new group'
'Password protect a file'
'Password protect a folder'

Apache

'add/edit/delete virtual host'
'edit folder permissions'
'edit httpd.conf'

PHP

'enable php module'
'disable php module'
'change active php version'
'enable php-gtk run from browser'

General

'add new project'
'edit project'
'delete project'

errr there are others planned and maybes , but those are the general ones.
all will have text links as well better describing the process as I appreciate there is only so much an icon can convey.

I can grab icons off the web etc but a custom set would be really really really really ... etc ! nice.

don't ask for much do I ?

not much help I know ... I dont really mind to be honest , I mean I like XP or KDE/Gnome style 3d , but I dont really mind as long as they are part of a 'set' ?

Ok. I am on a MAC so I have no idea about XP or KDE/Gnome. 3D I get.

I use Iconograper so I can make you a whole set of Icons.

I'll break out the sketch pad and see what comes out.

just about to have a go .. cos you a mac user .. then realised how daft that would be :)

no preference , whatever works for you , bigger is better of course as I can always scale down , but again beggars cant be choosers :D

really appreciate you having a looksee for me !

Iconographer can create all the icons in all sets MNS -- it'll do Mac OS X, Mac OS 9, Windows XP and older -- their tutorials on their website (in your help menu) should give you the full info about how to save which one. Incidentally, a neat trick for Mac:

You can create a picture in photoshop, select all and copy it -- find a folder or something somewhere and hit apple+I (to 'Get Info'). In the top left Icon, click on it and press ctrl+V... it'll let you paste your image in, and you've created a quick icon.

...but I don't think that works so well for PC. A good resource is also http://www.iconfactory.com/ -- they have tips, tutorials, programs, etc...

Yes, I know it can make Icons for any system...LOL Bet you can't do that on a pc though.

Have you seen the Photoshop actions for Iconographer? They are in the "goodies" folder and work great!

So I guess the question now is what platform does firepages need? All wndoze?

A "complete" set in Iconographer is a total of sizes ranging from a huge 32bit, 8bit, 4bit down to a small 1 bit . 48px x48px down to 16px by 12px All in one icon file. And if you need a thumbnail as well.

MACs RULE!!! :D LOL

MACs RULE ... can I comment on that after I get the images :D

the images are going to be used as jpgs || gifs for web interface + XPM format for GTK , I dont have an issue converting from 1 format to another its the originals I have the issue with :(

Ok. So you don't need Icons made you just want an image to work with?

Needs to be more advanced, like an icon or a button. Check out http://www.iconfactory.com/ to see some of their work.

Yeah I realize that but without some guidance about "if" that is what he wants, I'm only going so far. It will be 3-D as well when finished. You know how picky clients are. ;)

I made these 256px x 256px so they will proportionally reduce in size. At 32px x 32px they are hard to read.

Hi , sorry I am not being very helpful in my descriptions ... truth is I am not sure myelf what I want :)

but I was thinking more Iconic .. eg a padlock for the security stuff , err or maybe a castle , perhaps MSN like peeps for the user stuff but all with a common theme (I like the flames by the way)

so when I said Icons I meant `iconic` they will mostly end up as images to give the user a hint of what the button / link will do , I know that you cant convey say 'edit user privileges' in an image as such but perhaps a hint ? remember also that MySQL & PHP & Apache have thier own icons (dolphin , elephant & feather) which could be incorporated but perhaps be made to look as part of a set

Its a big ask I know & peeps get paid lots of $$ for this stuff .. so .sorry if I am confusing anyone

Whackaxe , sorry I did not see you post there earlier , size does not matter ;) but bigger means I can scale , the images posted by MotherNatrsSon for instance would be as big as they would ever need to be.

I have never seen PHP MySQL or Apache so I did not know what thier icons look like. That is why I asked for examles. You know, reference material. Somrthing to point me in the direction of what you are wanting.

Using the images that people are familiar with would probably be best. If people are used to seeing the dolphin, elephant and feather, that is what would be the easiest for the users to understand.

The reason I did the flames was because of the image you did past had a little button in the bottom center that I thought was the icon. I di not realize it was the whole image.

So, if you can point me towards the icons that already exist for those, I'll get back to the drawing board......
