Instead of shelling out $31 for a new print cartridge for the $29 printer I bought about 6 months ago, I'm considering buying one of the kits to refill the cartridge, for about the same price.
Anyone ever use one? Is it actually as easy as the instructions on the side of the box lead you to believe? Is it worth it?

You may not be aware but there is a little micro chip inside the cartridge and depending on who makes the printer, I heard that HP had made it so once the cartridge went empty, if you tried to refill it, the printer would check the chip and if it said it was empty once, it wouldn't print using it.
I don't know if anyone else did this.

That wouldn't surprise me. It's a crying shame that the color cartridge costs more than the printer.
The box on the kit I saw at Shopko said that it works with "most Lexmark printers".
My old HP printer had a relatively large print cartridge. When I put the color one into this lexmark, I was amazed at how small it looked in comparison.

I suppose you could just buy a new printer? :D

Nah...that only comes with a b/w cartridge. I need a color one.

My g/f tried using a refill kit and said it ended up becoming a big mess.

you could take your cartridges to a cartridge refil shop and let them faf about and fill it up.
