unable to download any .EXE file since QuickTime thinks it can open..

at my friends house i was unable to download and install a program, the link was a direct link, for example http://www.some-download-site.com/downloads/download.exe and once i had clicked on it, it simply went to a page with a 'QuickTime' 'Q' logo.

Ive unistalled QuickTime and i get an error message

'This page requires the QuickTime x4 plugin
Download at http://www.quicktime.com/
[Cancel] [HELP]'

ive tried everything, and quicktime still thinks that it can handle .EXE files. ive also tried configuring its files it can play/use in control panel...but it still wont work..

please help, my other option is to RE Install Internet EXPLORER , he has version 5 so i think he should get 6.

he should get 6, but on a side note, you might look at .exe files that are on the computer. Any .exe file and see what tries to open that...you can click on properties and change what program is used to open them that way. But never heard of such a problem.

Another way to get files is to right click the link and go to "save as" to d/l stuff....
