Hi guys,

First of all, no i'm not trying to compete against google. What i'm wanting to create is a small website for a group of friends who can use it LIKE a search engine. Example:

I want to search the site for assignments, I would select the category "Assignments" from the search bar and as an example type "Math". Which would obviously show Math Assignments, etc.

Also, i'm needing tips on how a user can manually submit their documents/links/texts to the database.

What i'm assuming is i'll have to learn a combo of PHP/MYSQL?

Just wanting some tips on where to start, please and thanks.

PHP and MySQL would be helpful

Try W3Schools

You could also employ the use of a canned solution thats pretty easy to set up. ZoomIndex(google it) is a great tool that can be configured using any one of several server side languages that will allow users to search your site.

Otherwise, as the last poster said, you could build your own custom search feature which would require hand coding the search function and a database of some kind. If you're not familiar with server sides like php or databases like MySQL, then you're looking at months or more time to get something up and running.

Brilliant, exactly what I'm looking for, thanks.

Also very helpful! What I intend on doing, is using the ZoomIndex for the short term until i learn to customise my coding skills and create my own.

Thanks all for your help!
