Making a rotating ad

I want to make an advertisement that is just a 300x250 picture that shows 1 jpg, then another jpg, then another, and just cycles through them.

Is this something that is easy to do with code?
Or should I just try to put all the images into a animated gif?

There are two ways to do that -

1. use an animated GIF
2. Use JavaScript to swap the images.
