I am about to learn ASP and I wish to install IIS on my PC. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a way to download this for Windows XP Home Edition. I do not have a Windows XP CD-ROM. Is there any way I can download IIS from the Internet?
Thanks in advance.

That's because IIS isn't supported with Windows XP Home Edition, you need Professional.

Isn't there a Personal Web Server for Windows XP?
I know there has been one for Windows 98/ Windows 2000 Home
Check on the installation CD...
Seems your stuck with Win XP Pro. Win XP Home doesn't support IIS OR PWS : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;304197
Bad move from Microsoft ...

To learn asp you do not really need IIS.
There is a great webserver for small companies / private persons available, that is also incredible easy to setup. It is called Abyss Web Server and it can support asp if you download a plugin. I have downloaded the plugin but not yet tried it, work comes first :)
Read more or download Abyss here: free btw]

the asp-plugin is found in this thread: [abyss forum]
[ URL removed as I'm sure I violated the forum-rules ]
So far I have been heavily impressed by Abyss!!
There is a member on this board that have a link to Abyss in his/her signature, thats how I got to know about it in the first place.
removed the inappropriate link
This is new to me. I'd be most interested in your finding when you get the time to try it out.
Couldn't open the forumlink (don't feel like registering rigth now) but i read this on their site
"ASP support is available only on Windows using a third party commercial product called ActiveHTML from seliSoft."
Up till now, i thought the only options were
- IIS/PWS
- Apache with free plugin and Perl as scriptinglanguage
- Commercial Package from Chilisoft to make your ASP's portatble.

Hmm, come to think about it, I may have violated the forum rules. :(
The component that is available at the thread I linked to is an old version, no longer available for download at the SeliSoft -site. They have a new version of the product that has a trial period, then one has to buy it. So the old version of the product is no longer supported or available for download on their site.
[Admins, please remove the link if I have done wrong]
I read in some other thread at Abyss forums that the (outdated) version of activeHTML did not support components, just regular asp. Could be good to know.
And sorry for not writing that you have to register on their forums, I completely forgot since I'm automatically logged in.
I think I'll have time to try it later today raf, I'll post here when I have played around with it a bit!
[EDIT]I had to try it, and I have did, I just configured Abyss to work with .asp-files and it works! I have not tried much though, just a little <%= "asp-support is <strong>activated</strong>!" %>
To setup the support, I followed these steps:
http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/asp.html
I suppose it was to good to be true :(
It's frustrating that with ASP, there's always the money-angle. The webserver = $ (for production) which makes hosting more expensive, most components = $ which makes developping more expensive, JetDB's (that come with the ASP hosting) = $, books and courses = $$
I'm doing all my new work in PHP - MySQL which are free and for which hosting is cheaper and for which i don't need components for uploading, mailing, imagecreation, pdf-generation, ftp and where there are hundreds of free classes for almost any feature you ever need.
I'd better stop complaining an get on with the job.
By the way, you can click on "edit" in your post and change the content yourself (this isn't Micro$oft, you know). Always nice to add a small content on your edits at the bottom. Like <edit> Removed links. See next post of mine</edit>

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've thought of learning php as well, I bought a book a few years ago, but I felt asp was easier.
I kind of regret that I chose to go with asp instead of php, but at the same time I probably never would have gotten my first job without my asp-knowledge. But still...
About a month ago, me and my gaming-clan decided to buy ourselves a domain & a webhost, we wanted asp since I'm the only one who knows web-stuff and I know asp and VERY little php. We looked into several options and then we found one that allowed us to choose between asp and php for the same price. By accident we chose Linux instead of Windows so now I have to learn php after all :D

Well there is a 45-day trial for Active HTML, so I may as well try it out.
Thanks, phlegmatic :)
