Collecting site visitor details

Hi,

I am a newbie with json, javascript, etc. basically what i want to do is capture the details of a visitor to my website, such as browser type, ip address, etc, etc.

Now is there a way i can use json to call a php page to collect those details, i guess i am trying to see if i can get those details using php without having to have a php page.

I found a tutorial where a small json script used php to get the ip address and return it back to the user, however it didn't work for me and so i just wondered if it was possible?.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is it not possible to install some kind of monitoring analytics such as StatCounter?

I second using stat counter, it does reveal the ip address of your visitor. I tried switching to google analytics but I didn't find it as intuitive as stat counter
