Floppy Drive Format problems

Dose anyone have any idea at all why I am not able to get my Floppy drive to format a disk? Every time I try my system (Windows 98) crashes.:confused:

Can you read a floppy? Have you tried formatting a floppy from DOS?

Yes I can read a floppy but no I have not tried to format one from dos. Not sure that I know how. It has been many years since I did anything in dos!

Open the case and make sure the cable to the drive is properly attached. I've seen floppy drives that "mostly" worked when the cable was half-off the connector. Make sure you don't loosen any other cables while checking this.

I check the cables and they are all tight. But I went to run the disk defrag on the hard drive and found that I had some errors on in and when I repaired them the floppy drive was able to format again. Go figure!
