autostart function for music on website

I have music set to start playing when my website starts up...is there any way to keep it from restarting everytime I go back to the home page through clicking the home link from another page?

two that I can think of - one would be to set a cookie (which wouldn't be perfect because many people disable them), the other would be with query strings - just append one to the href on the home link from your other pages with a variable that can then be set to disable the autoplay
