Does the fact that a website is mobile-device optimized have any bearing upon how high or low it ranks in a search on a mobile device?
I'm assuming, itíll still be subject to the same search engine ranking. A cell phone is just a different means of accessing that search listing.
Is my assumption correct?
Please advise. Thanks in advance!

I'd personally assume that it does have some effect. I can't see them supplying results to sites which are largely inaccessible to mobile devices if they detect a mobile is being used. It would make the whole point of the search engines using the mobile agents to check sites moot if they did.

I don't know if there is a difference now, but it's entirely plausible that there would be at some point. Google already prefers fast sites (universally) because it's part of the user experience and a factor in 'quality results'. Preferring a site that will work well on the users device (mobile) when all else is equal is not beyond the realm of possibility.

A client just reported that they did a mobile search using Siri on their iPhone for their occupation in their respective town where their office is located. Normally when they do this search on Google on a computer, they appear near the top. Apparently the Siri search results did not even show them, although it showed two other people in that occupation on their street.
Any clue what search criteria is used for Siri? As far as I understand it, Siri is NOT a search engine so I would think it would pull results from search engines but apparently not.

Siri searched with Google by default; therefore the correlation hile not necessarily causation, could indicate (along with common sense) a few things, primarily:
Mobile websites are optimized for mobile viewing. Since Siri, from a mobile device, uses Google (which counts speed and optimization as a factor in ranking) it is safe to assume that Mobile websites will rank differently than their non-mobile counterparts.
