i want to get a laptop for programming (i only have a mac) but I have no idea what the basic guidelines are for a computer that is good for it. What computer should i get or what are the guidelines for getting one? (plz include what computer you use)

It depends on what you're programming. For intensive gaming, graphic design, or mathematical programs, you would need to have sufficient CPU and RAM to handle that. But for almost any other type of programming, you can use a low end computer without trouble.
I would get at least a dual core with 2 gigs of RAM though, just so that your normal programs (IDE, browser, etc.) don't run too slowly. But that is nothing these days.

For programming I would suggest a 17" display with a 1920x1080 resolution.
In most cases you will need lots of toolbars, so a high res is really important.
4gb RAM are fine, too. Isnīt that expensive - take a look at the offers of dell, acer or toshiba.
