Same problem here, got a new PC so thought I could use my Ethernet cable to transfer files and whatnot, but didn't work!

Let me know if you find out please :)

When I connected my Windows 7 64bit to my Windows 7 32bit, on my network connections I could see 'Unidentified Network' on both meaning they could see each other but I could not do anything...

vista has Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller

but win 7 has realtech PCI GBE familly controller

the cable connects both and I can transfer files fine with wifi, but bit with cable!!
