Hi Everyone

I have a pop up stopper, but it doesn't catch them all.

Theres certain ones that still pop up on random pages. Is there a setting on my computer somewhere that I could block certain pages from being seen on my pc?

Also some of these pages start with C:/temptime.html or c:/time.html ---- so something is installing them on my computer and I can't get rid of them.

I made a bad mistake a few weeks ago that permitted these things I'm sure - but I WANT THEM GONE! HELP

THanks

Have a look at \windows\Downloaded Program Files and check the files there.

Also have a look in your program files directory and common files directory and check for things that should not be there, and conspicious files in your windows\ directory.

A few things are often stored in windows\system folder occasionally.

You can also press CTRL + DEL + Window and look through all the apps running - close anything unusual that are under the User category.

If you still are getting popups after that install AdAware, I believe they have a trial, you can get that from www.lavasoft.com and that will search your computer for unwanted things.

I think that would resolve your problems.

Hi,

I appreciate the reply. I have glanced through the computer - but things that are unusual to YOU and unusual to ME are completely different things! I'm almost knowledgeable enough to hurt something. I did find the c:/temptime.html file and time.html and changed the source code and delteed and etc - but it keeps getting overwritten. Wish there was a to protect the file so they cant rewrite it.

I have downloaded the ad aware and that found quite a bit. But its still happening.

Thanks
Laura

This may be a silly question...but after you ran Ad Aware and it found all these spyware programs....did you actually remove the spyware?

Well ..... Now when I do it..... it finds all of these things I check the little boxes and click next - it asks if I want to remove and I say OK

But the first time I ran it - I COULD have ran it wrong - but wouldn't it catch them the next time I ran it???

It would do.

The fact that the file is overwritten/re-created would mean that an app is generating it each time you do something.

I'd suggest you have a good look at your start up settings (type "msconfig" on your run menu (Window + R or Start->Run)), and look for things that are weird like Save.now, or names like that, block them and see how it goes.

Hey Meers,

I download something like you did before and I had some problem with it too, I even try to delete it from the registery everything.

What I did is, I actually went to the site of the Advertise, in the site, they have a solution for removing it.

I hope this help

 Best way to learn is learn from your own mistakes

Hi laura.

I see a couple of things that i don't know what they are, but nothing that would worry me too much. you might want to check out this list of things that run at startup (http://www.greatis.com/regrun3atyouroption.htm). it will help you sort out the good from the bad. it's not a definitive list, though, so if you can't find it there, keep looking.

keep running Ad-Aware; it doesn't always get everything on the first time, and be sure to update the reference file ( the big list of what's spyware and what's not ) frequently.

another thing i'd like to point out is that it could very well be your popup-blocker, that's presenting you with ads. it would be a great way for them to make money, if they could guarentee advertisers that their ads would get seen, and their competitors' ads wouldn't.

hope that helps
