Hey, well I was cleaning my room the other day with a swiffer, when I dumbly rubed it over the top of my monitor (non-flatscreen) and managed to deform the colours.
The deformation has gone down over the past few days, however one area of the the screen is still tainted towards the pink shades when on red, and black shades when on white.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this problem? I was thinking spray anti-static but then I just realised that wasn't such a sound idea. Then maby touch it with an anti-static bag for computer cards, but a friend told me somthing about very hot wires in it.
So does anyone have suggestions?

MNS ^^^ what this guy said. Degauss.
Basically you want to keep magnets, electric motors, speakers etc and the like away from monitors.

I'm not quite sure how to degauss...
Do I use a magnet?
Edit:
Woops didn't see post above mine, it was posted while I was replying.
Where do I place the magnets? on the screen or behind it?
I'm a total n00b to this.

If your monitor has a menu it'll be accessible from there, the symbol is like a horse shoe with a strike through. If there's no degaus funcion leave it and it'll get better in a few days.

Yeah this is an old ASTVision 4I
It's got scrollers ;).
Guess I'll have to wait it out then :(.
... or talk my parents into a bigger monitor :D.

You try turning your monitor off then back on? Some monitors automatically degauss when the turn on. If you monitor doesn't have a OSD (On Screen Display) there might be a button for it on the front along with all the other adjustments.
Yeah swiffer's aren't a good idea to use on electronics since they use static electricity to pick up dust.

I learned about running magnets over screens the hard way. I put one close to it and I was like "WOW!" I done it to one at school one time and it started smoking (don't know how that happened). Thats how I learned ;)

I've tried that, the ony things it has are dispplay-adjustment-only knobs and a power button.

That what i realised after I did it lol.

Heh, atleast it wasn't like the kids from my grade 8 class who broought a fridge magnet and tried to blow up the school LED clocks with it ;).
Anyways, thanks for you help everyone, I guess I'll just have to wait, get a new one or do some reasearch on how to fix it with magnets.

if you still have a problem you can try to uplug your monitor before you go to bed. So by the time you get up in the morning it should be completely drained of power and hence will have the effect of degausing...

Well I fixed it by repeatedly moving a magnet I got from a kinder suprise toy over it again and again, I couldn't be happier.
