I want to become an IT person, I know stuff here but I don't think I know enough. Where can I go to learn more or what sort of steps should I take? Anything to read or something?

Depends exactly what field inside of IT you want to be in. E.g. Server Managment, Network Managment, etc.
For server managment, knowing how to operate, configure, and troubleshoot various server platforms is a must. Learning how to configure and maintain an Active Directory is a good idea too. Clustering, SANs, and general network knowledge is good too. Also knowing the hardware side of things too like server components and such.
For network managment, it is good to know all the concepts behind what makes the thing work. e.g. OSM Model, etc. Also knowing how to install, configure and maintain routers, switches, fiber links, etc.
Thats just some general direction.

ok...need some ecplanation here...what is an Active Directory? What is SANs? I know hardware and I know how to network, though not so well in Linux or Unix...but I can get it done. You also mentioned OSM model...what is that?

SAN storage area netwqrk usually connect with a fiber optic backbone.
Did you mean OSI?
that is "open standards interconnect" it is basic model how networks are setup.

AD is a central database on a domain controller which is used to manage user and computer accounts, setup security policies for the network.

Yeah, a SAN is a large raid array that can be access via the network. So you can just buy 1U servers with only a boot drive or something and keep your large raid array seperate. And multiple computers can use 1 SAN too.

Yes... So many acronyms. :)
Active Directory is as prezbedard said, the central database on a Windows 2000 Server or higher network. It is quite powerful.
