I really need some help here!

I just formated one of our computers at work and I am about ready to kick this thing through a wall! I seem to be stuck in 640 x 480 resolution at 16 colors! I have loaded the correct driver for the monitor, so what the heck is the problem?!

Also, everyone else on the network has great downloading speed, but this one's all of the sudden is horrible! What's the deal?

Anyone have any ideas of how to remedy the situation(s)?

Thanks!

-Ben

Ok, So I solved the resolution problem...but please help me to understand why it was solved in this way:

I have a KDS Rad-5 flatscreen monitor with a AMIC video card ( I'll get you the type # if you want it). Neither the KDS or the AMIC drivers worked, but when I installed some drivers off of a nVIDIA cd, the problem was solved...why oh why does the nVIDIA driver work, but not the manufaturer's drivers?

But my internet connection is still extremely and abnormaly slow in comparison to all the other computers connections....any ideas?

what OS are you on...if 2k or XP you can try a <ctrl><alt><del> to find out the traffic that the computer has and where it is all going. You might try updating the drivers for the nic.

The video card probably has an nVidia chipset on it. That is why the drivers worked. It is usually better to use the drivers provided by the chipset manufactuer than the people who made the card itself.

Probably not the problem, but I know the last time I set up a new computer at work the internet ran incredibley slow due to a poor ethernet cable. I just swapped in a new cable and it worked like a charm.
