I’m not sure what your intention is. There is no meta tag for 301 redirects. You should use an .htaccess file for that or a PHP header.

in html4 I used a redirect in the meta tags. Here is the situation - I have moved many of the front pages of the countyfairgrounds net website - lied example http://www.countyfairgrounds.net/promoters.php became http://www.countyfairgrounds.net/promoters/promoters.php - and there were quite a few of these changes. I need to forward the first above page to the new one. So Stephan how do I do this?

You have two choices: Use a PHP header redirect (http://www.phpjunkyard.com/tutorials/php-redirect.php) in your old pages or use an .htaccess (http://www.webweaver.nu/html-tips/web-redirection.shtml) file.
With the PHP method you keep your old files/file names along with having the new files, and in the old files you put the header thing at the very top (you don’t need your old content there, though). With the htaccess method you can remove all your old files since the server takes care of the requests before a page is even accessed.

Hi Stephen - tell me how to do the htcaccess thing - or should I call Yahoo - who hosts it - the website. I appreciate your help. This stuff never gets easier does it?

To quote from the source I provided earlier:
To Move a single page
Quick, easy and seamless for your visitors.
Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.example.com/newpage.html
This is what you write in the .htaccess file which you put in the root directory of your site (of course, you need to adapt the name(s) to the one(s) of your file(s)). If you want to redirect more pages then add more lines like the one above.
