View Full Version : Best language for Large Databases

Hello Everyone,

I am a freshman in college, and going from one of my favourite Disney movies, I have seen a need, and want to fill that need. I don't want to go into too much detail, but I do know that potentially this website would have a very large database of information to look through, and I'm wondering which language would best suite that situation.
I'm already pretty seasoned in Python, and from what I understand Stackless Python is better for larger databases than regular Python, and I've also learned a little PHP. My friend is also eager to undertake this project, he's a much better programmer than I am, he knows Java, C and C++ and has always been pretty reluctant to learn Python because "he can already do anything he wants without it."
Just going from what facebook uses (not that I intend for this website to house databases of over 500 million people) Erlang for its scalability.

Just wanted some opinions, is there any one language that is best suited for large databases? Or should we just go off of what we know? I'm planning for the future, because although this website will start off with just a few hundred weekly users, it has the potential to spread across college campuses everywhere.
