Hi all

I want to allow a certain user to update the marquee text within the screen
scroller without them having to use frontpage to open the web component and
play around with the page design...?

eg

The user enters the text in a textbox on password protected page within the same site. and the marquee text (marquee text on sites homepage) is updated to the users input. i have googled this a few times and can':thumbsup:t seem to find much information on it.

any help with this would be great thanks in advance

Hi ziggyster2007

I hope when you say marquee, you do not mean you are using the marquee tag  thats horribly depreciated i'm afraid :( javascript alterntives should be used. A google form javascript marquee should find you plenty ;)

That sounds a little easier than it actually is, I’m afraid. First, you need some kind of server side script (e. g. PHP, JSP, ASP.NET, …) to handle the login process and the restricted page display. Then you probably need some kind of database to store and retreive the scroller messages (although it might be possible with a simple text or XML file, too, if it’s a very basic process).

All in all, it sounds like a simple content management system (CMS) is what you are looking for. I can recommend CMS made simple (http://cmsmadesimple.org/) and Concrete5 (http://concrete5.org/) but there are even more basic ones if you just want to manage this single process (but I can’t recommend any because I have no experience with them).
