View Full Version : Form Data from URL

Hello there folks,

This place was very helpful and courteous during my last visit so I figure I'd see if perhaps you guys could help me out. I tried to do a bit of searching but I've a feeling I'm not using the proper terminology and thus am coming up empty handed.

In short I have a chat applet that I'm trying to get a "Report Member" function working in. Users can right click on a member and select "Report Member". From there a URL is launched with data provided by the chat applet. Here is an example URL:

Essentially, JaneDoe is reporting JohnDoe for who knows what. I'd like the Report.htm page to have a form in it where the information from the form is prefilled (and uneditable) from the information provided by the URL. Essentially the form would look like the following:

Username of Member: JohnDoe
Your Username: JaneDoe
Room: Main Room
Report: (They would fill this section in)

After filling out the report they'd hit submit and it'd get emailed to the moderating staff.

With all that said, is this possible? If so, what can help get me started in learning how to do this? I've spent a good deal of time looking around on Google but nothing seems to be quite what I want or, more likely, I'm simply not using the right search terms. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there DanInMa, thanks for the reply.

Apologies for leaving that out in my initial post, definitely should have mentioned it. The server side language I have available is PHP.

Forgive the double post, just seeing if anyone else has any insight on this. I had assumed it was going to be a client side issue, hence why I posted it here, but if that's incorrect I'd be more than happy to post this issue in the PHP forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
