please take a look at this test page (http://nimlok.com/new_site/final/tradeshow-exhibits/custom-modular/index.php?category=7)
initial idea was to say something like "click the exhibit image to see detailed features" under the image. when the link is clicked, a big pop up window would appear witha big exhibit image in it and some features highlighted. but then comes teh problem of pop up stoppers. seems like some will still get the winodw open, but not all. so if not a pop up winodw, how would you treat it then?

Treat it as a link with target="_blank"???

thanks ;)
i was asking more from a design point of view. if i cannot do pop ups for this idea, what would be the best alternative route with the design we're going for?
a floating box that isn't visible on pageload, but is shown when the link is clicked.
But this means of coarse that you need to load all invisible boxes so this might slow down things...

What is the difference? They both open new windows.
I have a thumnail gallery viewer that uses a new layer to open up larger images on my site. If you want the script it is at Dynamic Drive. Only problem is that if you use ANY doctype at the top of your page the script will cease to function.

That principle though - loading images into a dynamic layer instead of a new window - is a good 'un.
Vladdy made something similair fairly recently ... check out http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17228
Also check out this thread for more fun on the ethics of pop-ups http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18162 Unsurprisingly, most people come out against them ..

You may want to just leave it alone, too. Popup blockers usually display a visual or make a sound when a window is trying to open. They can also be set to stop certain types of popups...Of course, we don't know what their settings are...Personally, I think it's a unfortunate fad and just the latest marketing ploy...but I'm also designing sites without popups just in case.
