I've had scandisk freeze on me a few times and was wondering why that was. Scandisk appears after i have to hardboot due to computer problems. Im using Windows ME.

Well I think possibly winme is part of your problem. It has loads of problems. It could just be some bad sectors (does scandisk pick those up) or really long file names.

Scandisk does pick up bad sectors, that was one of its main purposes when it was created. But with modern IDE hard drives, bad sectors are a thing of the past. They were most common on MFM hard drives back in the day and early IDE drives.
Just skip the scandisk when it loads at startup. I believe there is a way to permently disable it from loading when the system isn't properly shutdown. I think it is some where under "System" in the control panel. I think in "file system" options window.
Scandisk doesn't really have a purpose anymore.

It seemed like that was the answer but it actually doesnt work. I think the problem is that I didnt put it in the right place. The file is attached in a txt format.

Just a little update on my problem, had to hard boot 7 times today, and I think you can guess the culprit.

you really should get rid of ME then, it was actually one of Microsofts worst OS's. Note: don't install a new OS over ME, same problems will occure, new one will arise and at the same time, it eats up alot of HD space...

I had thought about getting a new 1, but im not exactly rolling in money and I should probably get XP even though i dont like it. I might have fixed it, just havent restarted yet. Another link to the problem here (http://www.listsoft.com/new/?tip=344), I hope this 1 works.

You like it once you start using it. Compared to Windows Me, XP is paridise.

So bad sectors are not a modern thing? XP doesn't have any surface scanning software. But I had a problem with Windows 98 when using scandisk and Defrag. When it says its complete and shows the results screen, I can't do a thing becaues its frozen! I don't know if it froze instantly, but when I come back to the pc after waking up or something, its always those screens that do it. What's going on? It used to work fine.
