I have been working on an old Toshiba lap top and continue to get these three files listed when the machine is booted.

I realize that these files may be insignificant right now...but I do not like to see these messages everytime.

I have tried pretty much everything in the standard on check them all from msconfig...but they are relentless and keep displaying the same message just before Windows loads.

Each of the listed below files has the same message missing or corrupted.
Windows 98 SE still loads and the computer functions very well. The lap top is a Toshiba 2100CDT.

C:\DOS\TOSCDROM.sys
C:\DOS\Himen.sys
C:\DOS\Panning.sys

Any ideas?

Where more specificly in the boot up process do they appear?

Is it right before the GUI loads? If so, it should say which file is referencing the files.

If it is pretty early in the bootup process, it could be in the config.sys

In any case, if Windows is working fine without them, simply remove the reference to them.

I would really like to remove the reference to them...how do I go about doing that.
I know if I format the drive the problem will resolve but there is too much info on the lap top to do that currently.

Those files are probably in the config.sys file in the root directory of the boot drive.

You can just open the file up with notepad. Or you should be able to use a program called sysedit from the run command.

If you do find them just put REM and then a space at the beginning of each line that has one of the files. This will comment them out. Then try rebooting, if it all works, then you can if you wish, just delete the lines out of the file.
