I am familiar with the @screen and @print directives, but what is the best directive to use for mobile and handheld devices?

@media handheld {
{}
}

I would have to say that fluid websites using % work the best on handhelds

Unfortunately the “handheld” media type is unreliable these days because more and more devices – in an effort to bring the “real internet” to mobile devices – only react to the “screen” media type. Fortunately, though, they all have modern browsers that support CSS media queries (http://css-tricks.com/6206-resolution-specific-stylesheets/).
