There's more than one way to encode special characters. Hex, Dec, ASCII and so on.

Here's (http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm) a pretty good chart that shows each type and their counterparts.

But you shouldn't need to encode this character.

haha ok I misread the question. OP wanted to know the encoding for an apostrophe....lol

No as Apostro-phartheid said, you shouldnt need to endode this at all.

Unless you care to write typographically correct apostrophe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe#Typographic_form)s in unsupporting character encondings.

okay, gys, I know this seems a tad bit picky HOWEVER, I have a php database validation problem with my entertainers database at http://www.countyfairgrounds.net/entertainersforhire.php - MY PHP guy is trying to figure out if he can put the coes for html translation into the php so it will display properly and not be kicked out by the feed validator. That is our problem now. That beings aid - I am presuming we can just use the html coes for special display characters? s

The problem of your site is that somewhere the character encoding is screwed up. I suppose it has something to do with the database, in which encoding is this set up? The HTML validator says it can’t validate the document because some characters aren’t UTF-8.
