I am making a site for a client that works fine in FF and Chrome, but breaks in IE (imagine that). The problem is that I have no idea why its not working.

Here is the site: http://www.zipnac.net

In IE only the backgrounds are styled. I have created a dropdown menu, but it is not styled at all. Also, @font-face is not working properly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You do know HTML5 is still very new and experimental. One of the drawbacks is the lack of support for html5 specific elements like the section tag, which you use quite a bit, in IE8 and older. I googled a hack for this issue and found many pages here (http://www.google.com/#hl=en&xhr=t&q=code+to+use+with+html5+in+IE&cp=28&pf=p&sclient=psy&source=hp&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=code+to+use+with+html5+in+IE&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=c488823cce0a6f39&biw=1440&bih=698). You can probably find a bit of code that will work there.

Personally, I'm not using html5 at all at this time. I've read reports that full browser support is still at least a year maybe 2 out, so use at your own risk! lol

Thanks for your quick reply. I just updated IE to 9 and the page displays beautifully. I'm going to implement some of the hacks you mentioned to make it work in earlier browsers.

Thanks again!

Good idea! Glad you're not planning on alienating ppl still using older browsers. I still use IE8 on my laptop, simply because I'm not used to IE9 yet, which I have on my desktop...lol

Ha yeah. I can't afford to lose any people because their browser isn't state of the art. Down here a lot of people don't even know how to update their browsers.

I have created them, but I'm not sure if I've uploaded them yet. I'll get on it.
Thanks!

Everything has been updated, and I added the HTML 5 shiv, but things still don't look right in IE8. Any ideas?

Here (http://www.zipnac.com) is the link again.

Looks like your html5 elements are being styled now though. What issue do you see different between browsers? You main content is extending beyond your div, but that has nothing to do with html5. You cloud background seems a bit different as well.

I fixed the text extending beyond the body area, but now the text is disappearing randomly. I think it has something to do with the twitter widget. Every time I mouse over it, the body text disappears.

Any suggestions?

I found out that highlighting the text on the twitter widget causes the body text to disappear.

Not to steal the thread from anyone....but I just wanted to mention a quick thank you to teedoff for the idea of using a hack to work around this issue. :)

I've been suffering my own hair pulling with IE8's lack of cross-compatibility and is giving me a great new project to start on for the week. :)

HA, I got that from other more experienced pros here and other forums. I'm still relatively new to this field myself, but have learned when more experienced veterans of web design say something...I listen! lol

OP: still looking into your issues as well: power outage at home last night so was unable to do anything more. Now, have you uploaded your newly edited page to your server? I still see your text extending far beyond your page container. I also dont see an issue with the twitter link yet. Perhaps when the text is contained better, this issue will arise?

I uploaded it all last night, and the text is displaying correctly for me. I tried testing it on another computer, but it kept throwing the page into compatibility mode.
