View Full Version : webserver is forcing .php download [apache - mac os x]

Hi guys,

All of a sudden (after a month of amp being installed) the mac os x server is deciding to force download of the .php file - but randomly, sometimes it will load the site as expected, but it just went through a 10minute hissy fit about forcing the download of a 0byte .php file

It may be relevant; the server is running fairly slow today - although the average load is only at around 0.3 in all 3 intervals.

I don't know much about MAC, and i was wondering if anyone had an idea as to what this could be?

Many thanks

I don't know anything about mac either, but the behaviour you are experiencing is the same as an unknown or invalid php handler for the webserver, so it doesn't know what to do with a .php file. I'd go over your logs to see if you've experienced an event causing the php module to fail (which is likely a part of the error.log for apache itself), which could explain why its attempting to download the file instead of parsing it as expected.

Since I'd expect this is a development machine, I wouldn't waste too much time concerning yourself of this unless it was caused by something you have written. I'd just reboot the machine and see if that fixes the problem. Running slow says something is wrong, whether it be hardware or software related.

thanks for your reply Fou-Lu, unfortunately it's not my development machine, I have been developing this on the clients machine as it uses physical paths of their user files, and the creation/deletion of users etc.

I've asked their Administrator to look into it, he's given it a reboot and we'll go from there see if it happens again
