View Full Version : performance

I've just uploaded some great big old table of all UK postcodes to my database. 1.6 million records of Postcode, Latitude, and Longitude. As I imagined, when retrieving this data via a SELECT query, and inserting the marker on a Google Map according to the Lat,Long found - there is some degree of loading. It's not too much, but about 3 seconds worth.

Is there any way of improving the speed of this? Does it depend on the server you are using etc, or other factors?

Advice would be great.

note. UK - US phrase book. Postcode = ZIP Code :D

You can enable mysql's query caching (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/query-cache.html). You can also check your query's performance with explain (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/using-explain.html).
