Is there a way to change the display of a pages URL to something more intuitive for visitors?

Currently, for OUR needs for file organization, our web files are named sort of like:

siteSection-sectionInfo.php

...which means it'll show in the browser as:

http://www.ourSite.com/siteSection-sectionInfo.php

However I WANT it to read like this when a visitor goes onto that OR subsequent pages WITHOUT renaming the actual page names:

http://www.ourSite.com/sectionInfo

...is this possible, or no?

URL rewrites (http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=gsqvh&xhr=t&q=url+rewrite&cp=5&pf=p&sclient=psy&site=&source=hp&aq=0&aqi=&aql=f&oq=url+r&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=9e109416ad216412)

Depending on which web server your hosting company is running(Apache or IIS) there are diffrerent tools for each.

Wow...seems difficult. Thanks for the info. i wasn't even sure what it was called. I'll look into this and hopefully I can find a good solution.
