OK, here's one that I'm almost embarrased to ask about.:o

A couple weeks ago, I had to use Ad-aware to get rid of a pesky little thing that shouldn't have been downloaded to begin with. Since then, every time I reboot my computer, I get some weird error messages.

I am running Windows XP Pro, SP1.

I don't recall the text of the error messages off-hand, but I have traced them to 2 files...
CWCPROPS.CPL
MMCpl.cpl
Both of these files in windows\system32 directory are listed as "disabled". Both of these files are the subject of the reboot error messages I receive.

What are these files? How do I re-enable them?

Due to a lousy packing job with my recent change of domicile, my original installation disk for Windows XP is not currently available.

They are control panel application extensions...

Plain english: the programs that are available in the control panel.

I'm not sure how they are "disabled", did ad-aware do it? If so I'm sure that there is an option to "renable" them..

I don't know if ad-aware disabled them or what. All I know is that after running ad-aware, I can't boot my system without error messages. One of them tells me that rundll32 can't find the .cpl file that shows up as disabled.

I wonder if its like network stuff where you right click on them and say "enable" if that doesn't work, I would suggest opening them in a notepad and finding the word "disabled" and replace it with enable...if that works.
