How many new sites do you design per month/year? What job does most of your pay come from (designing new sites, updating current clients, etc.)? I've heard some designers say most of their work is for current clients but I find that hard to believe with CMS these days.

I'm trying to determine the price of my work by dividing my target income by the number of jobs. The reality is, I could take on 3-4 jobs a month but if others are doing 1-2 in the same time, that means I'm only charging half of what I should be and doing twice the work.

I do 2 or 3 per year  But it's not like I'm feeding my children with freelance work so... that probably doesn't help you.

Haha, not really. No one cares to share the amount of projects they complete per year?

I'd say about 85% of my current income comes from tweeks/additions/redesigns from 3 current, long term clients. Especially this year I've had a lot of "one and done" jobs for start ups that have filled in the rest of my workload.

What is the population of your area like? I live in a city of 21,000 with nearby cities at 48,000 and 11,000. That's why I ask so many questions regarding amount of work and fees.
