Smooth rounded corners

Hi folks,

I'm looking to create some smooth rounded corners in PS. I'm attempting to place an image with low opacity (~50%) and gradient from grey to transparent over a background that turns from black into white. However, my attempts so far have produced some pretty jagged and ugly results (see the attached image).

My method has been the following.

1. Create new layer
2. Select the rounded rectangle tool
3. Draw shape (anti-alias selected) and set the opacity and gradient values.

I'm obviously doing something wrong because this isn't working.

Perhaps AA was switched off after all :confused: though I thought that it defaulted to the on position. In any way, this seems to have been resolved.

I've been having some trouble lately too with smooth rounded corners, mostly when using a stroke to outline something. It can be real tricky sometimes, like when trying to make the corners out of a selection by refining the edges or smoothing them. Wish I knew of the most efficient way of making them.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do? You just need a rounded shape and a black background?

The 'rounded rectangle tool' seems to be the best approach. Also look in to 'refine edge' for some real time tweaking.
