help getting a forum started???

I'm not posting my url this time, rules are rules. Does anyone have any tips on how to get this thing started... It seems that no one will join unless there are alot of members...

Just like necessity is the mother to invention, it's also the mother to an online community. Most all forums (including this one) start because there is a need for them, whether it be coding or talking about the local bands. Just cause you can put a forum up doesn't mean people will automatically start going.

This forum started because it was part of a very good website. If you have a good website that attracts many people, a forum will be that much easier.

If you sponsor or advertise in other websites, it will help you to get a lot more visitors. Mind you, you should like pardicity3 mentioned, have something that other places do not offer.

Plus, a nicely designed forum doesn't really go a-miss either... :)
