First off, you posted this in the wrong forum. This should be in PC issues. It has absolutly nothing to do with web design.

Secondly, you can't just paste that link in. It says the cart is empty because they store the cart's contents based on the session.

It seems okay. I'd probably go the Intel route but it seems decent. You should look at SATA too.

Eh, Nightfire, my first computer was a Intel 8088 8MHz with a math co-processor. It has a Seagate ST-225 (20MB) MFM hard drive. MFM was the thing before IDE. And a whoping 640k of memory.

Gosh those were the days.

Mine was a Commodor 64 without harddisk. Just a taperecorder with a counter. Didn't even had a monitor. Needed to plug a TV into it.
But it waited at the same speed as my current machine does :D

Not sure how much you're paying for the 3000+ but it might be more cost effective, and future proof, to get the Intel offering for similar money. The 3000+ comes with a bit of a premium.

Same with the 9800pro, it's a fast card, but only marginally faster than the 9700pro, which you may prefer the price of.

hmmm agree about the 3000XP , I just got a MSI kT4 ultra +RAID and whilst I wanted the 3000 ;) I got the 2400 as it was about 1/3 rd of the price ! + in 3-6 months when the prices come down I can grab one & still use that mobo ... that was my logic anyways.

the price difference betwen the 9700 and the 9800 is just $25 so Ill just strick with the 9800, remember the 256mb cards are already out so the 128s are cheaper.

Im sticking with the AMD 3000+, its $245 the Intel is a lot more expensive about $400

Yeah but the 3000+ isn't actually 3GHz, it only runs at 2.16GHz.

For 245, you could get a 2.667Ghz Pentium 4 that would have 512k cache and a 800MHz FSB.

My XP @ 2.4GHz is rated at something silly like 3500+ by Sandra :o + added bonus is that a Canterwood mobo or decent Springdale, will take the forthcoming Prescott/P5 in the autumn...

My local computer store sells them. They even sell 2.4GHz at 800.

From intel.com:

800 MHz system bus: 3 GHz, 2.80C GHz, 2.60C GHz, 2.40C GHz http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/processors/pentium4/index.htm?iid=ipp_desk_proc+prod_p4p&
:p

I was slightly off but still essentially correct.

He could get 2.6 for 245. And it would probably preform better than the 3000+

Hey, all the nostalgia about the old computers...

My first was a Kaypro II/CPM
It was a "portable" computer that looked like a metal suitcase. One end detached (the keyboard) to reveal a 6-inch monitor and 2 floppy drives. No HD. Those were the days. I tried to program a couple games in Basic, but got too complex for the system and crashed it. ;)

 My first computer had 12Mhz and 1mb memory :D. I always wanted a 386 though. Spent my days playing such brilliant titles as "Commander Keen" (episode 1,4,6) and "Captain Comic"... And writing QBASIC stuff. :)

I'm not sure if anyone else had said anything but, why are you going for pc2700?

Commander Keen! I still have all the episodes on low density floppies. I even installed them a while ago on my notebook so I could play them again.

And I still have Duke Nukem 2 too. :)

I recently setup my old 200mmx for my litle sister with all of my old games. :D I only have Duke Nukem I though... Those were the days. :) Test Drive IV, Prince of Persia...makes me want to pull my Atari 2600 out of the cupboard and repair the power supply. :D

[edit:] Musn't forget the original Railroad Tycoon.

Drop the tornado fan unless you also plan on relpacing the heatsink (Alpha or the SLK900 or a swifty would be the only worthwhile choices for that fan). It is loud and overkill if you are not overclocking. Intel is currently on top speedwise but you'll be happy with either system.

I'd replace the PSU that is incuded in that case with an Antec 420watt True Power one. Besides PC Power & Cooling ($$$$) they make the best (IMO) power supplies out there, and have very good support if something goes wrong.

Personally I like the Abit nForce2 mobo better than the Asus, and the newest rev is one of the best OCing boards out there now.
