I have a webpage on which I want an image to display when the page is loaded.

The image is a 1860 Census image from Ancestry.com.

I copied Ancestry long URL and pasted it into into Tiny URL and created these two Tiny URL's

"http://tinyurl.com/4t2jqkw" and

I selected the preview URL because I thought it would more readily load when the page is accessed.

I then added this coding to my web page

<img src="http://preview.tinyurl.com/4t2jqkw"
alt="1850 Census, Smith County, MS" style="border: 0px solid ; height: 540px; width: 936px;">

When the page is displayed I only get a box with the ALT tag displayed within the box.

I know I'm a novice at HTML coding; so please tell what I have missed in coding this so that the image will display when the web page is accessed.

Both those url's point to a web page and not an image so you can't use them in an <img> element.

Copy and paste http://tinyurl.com/4t2jqkw into your browser nav. bar and see where it takes you.

So I'm going to have to set it up as a hyperlink rather than an embedded image.

<a href="http://preview.tinyurl.com/4t2jqkw">1850 Census, Smith
Co.,MS; Household 112/112</a>

It depends on what you actually want to display.

Do you want to display a web page or an image as in your first post??

If it's a web page you want to display then yes, use the url as the href in an <a>.

If it's an image that is not on your server that you want to display, you need to find the url to the actual image (not the url of the page the image is on) and then use the image's url in the src of an <img>
