Search Engine- Spiders (general question)

I have recently done some work on a friends website that currently receives a fairly dencent ranking at google. I have added a redirect command to one of the existing pages on his site (syntax as follows): META http-equiv="refresh" content="time;URL=url">

Does anyone know how frequently spiders will crawl a decently ranked site to update the META tags esp. like the tag above ?

as far as I know, it won't make any difference either way - the spider will index the page once and then go away, coming back whenever it would have done anyway.
