I'm flying tomorrow with my daughter and I plan on bringing some videos.
Under which scenario am I most likely to conserve battery power?

1. Just play the cd/dvd in the from the dvd drive?

2. Extract the music/video to the hard drive to play from there?

It would seem that having to spin the dvd drive would consume more power.
True? If you can think of other ways to save, that would be great. Thanks!

The dvd will actually consume the most... Mainly because it read ahead and passes information to the hard drive...

you might extract the movie onto the computer and also change the view settings so that the laptop isn't using all the power to light the screen as best it can, maybe turn the brightness down a bit or to the likings of your daughter...also change the boot settings, maybe before you pack the computer up to leave go into the start-up menu and turn off all the un-necessiary programs like antivirus since you can't get one on the airplane...
